GREVELINGEN

SWIMMING

Within walking distance of the camp site (200 meters) you will find a little sandy beach. This clear beach is suitable for everyone. The water is slowly going deeper, which make it perfect to enjoy a sunny day at the beach with  (little) children. Jeanzz beach bar is located on the beach and the perfect place for a meal, drink or refreshing ice cream.

HIKING AND CYCLING

It is also lovely to enjoy hiking and cycling around the lake. Someone who is walking or cycling along the Grevelingen sees, feels, smells, hear and tastes more. The many hiking and biking trails along the Lake, a plethora of bicycle cafés and the ability to link the route to a nice trip in between, ensuring that your route along the lake never will be the same! If you walk or cycle along the waterfront you can see the seals. A great spot to see the seals is the Brouwersdam. They won't be afraid of you, they will show off earlier!

With a cycling map of the VVV (available at the reception) you are sure to find the most beautiful spots.

WATER SPORTS

What makes the Grevelingen great, is that you enjoy it in many ways. By the lack of heavy flow, but with the presence of a sea breeze, the Lake is a fine water for different types of water sports. Swimming, paddling, canoeing, sailing, diving, fishing, any lover can. No wonder that there are several diving-, sailing- and surf schools  that love to learn you the tricks of the trade. Or go on a cruise and with any luck you will discover how the seals are sunning themselves on their private beach.

When you have a look around you, you will always see activity. Sailing, fishing and motor boats, water skiers, surfers and divers who come back from their discovery tour under water.
The facilities around the lake are very good; large parking places right on the water and public toilets and showers.

FOOD

When it comes to good cuisine, there is a bountiful supply of seefood from the Grevelingen. Lobsters and mussels from the Grevelingen are a true delicacy and are in several restaurants served fresh. Definitely worth it!

DIVING

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced diver, the Grevelingen is an underwater paradise! In the largest salt water lake in Western Europe (because that's the Grevelingen!) are the clay and sand particles by the still water dropped to the bottom, so you have a clear view under the water. By anemones, goby, slippers and eel into butter fish and herring.

The dive wrecks at Scharendijke provide an extra dive experience. Because you can enter the wrecks, your diving experience becomes even more exciting. There are three wrecks close to each other, of which Le Serpent, the sixty-metre-long concrete ship, is only for the experienced diver. The wreck is now a artificial reef in which different plant and animal species lives ... such as anemones, crabs and lobsters. It seems that even seals visit the wreck.

No diving experience? No problem. The Grevelingen is an excellent area to get acquainted with the unique underwater world of the Delta. Sealand Diving diving school (located on the camping itself) will teach you the tricks of the trade!

SEALS

IN THE GREVELINGEN LIFE DOZENS OF SEALS AND THEY ARE EASY TO FIND. LOVERS OF SEALS ARE IN ZEELAND ON THE RIGHT PLACE!

Seals on Schouwen-Duiveland are not that hard to find. The beautiful nature, the clean water, the space and the rest have a positive impact on these animals and they thrive here. Seals feel reasonably at home on not too large distance from people. You will find some seals in the middle of the lake or they swim curious over the water. They relax a lot on the beach and enjoy the sun.

In the Grevelingenmeer life free large populations. The number of seals in the Zeeland waters takes very fast. Precise numbers are not known, but if they are once somewhere on their feel free to continue they can come back to a certain area.

TIP

CRUISE SHIP "GREVELINGEN" IS AN AUTHENTIC SHIP AND IT'S STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE SHIP IS DECORATED WITH LOTS OF PICTURES, BOOKS AND SHIP MODELS.

Create a pleasant boat trip on the Grevelingen lake with the party and cruise ship "Grevelingen". You create a speed of 1.5 hours from port of Den Osse along Port Zélande to the visitors centre Grevelingen near Ouddorp, where the boat welcomes new passengers. Then you'll sail to the Hompelvoet (a beautiful natural area where many birds breed) and on the way you can see and hear the seagulls. The boat goes between Stampersplaat and Dwars in de weg (where semi-wild fjords horses run), past Brouwershaven back to port of Den Osse.

Enjoy the Grevelingen
